این آهنگ یکی از مشهورترین آهنگ های دهه 70 میلادی در سبک راک است که توانست در جدول پرفروشها سالها باقی بماند و نیز گروههای زیادی از جمله Creed، Wolfmother، Annabel Lamb و حتی گروه های زیادی در ژانرهای غیر راک این آهنگ را کاور کرده اند. گیتاریست گروه Robby Krieger در رابطه با ایده آهنگ گفته در ساخت این آهنگ از Ghost Riders in the Sky: A Cowboy Legend اثر آهنگساز و خواننده آمریکایی به اسم Stan Jones الهام گرفته اند اما Jim Morrison مرحوم ... دیدن ادامه ›› خواننده و آهنگساز The Doors گفته است ایده اصلی از زندگی Billy Cook گرفته شده... یکی از قاتلینی که در سال 1950 در طول سفر 22 روزه خود از ایالت میزوری به ایالت کالیفرنیا 6 نفر از جمله یک خانواده را به قتل رسانده بود. همونطور که بعضی قسمت های متن آهنگ هم اشاره ای به این داستان دارد:
